JBL 1940 Jim Lansing Theater System - Ampex Model 5050 Back-Loaded Horn, Double Woofer

This is a rare 1940s JBL/Ampex Model 5050 back-loaded horn theater speaker system, sold as a matched pair of cabinets. Each enclosure is a 2-way, 3-speaker design housing dual JBL 150-4 32-ohm alnico woofers, a 375 16-ohm compression driver (early bubble-back gray model), and the hard-to-find N500 dividing network, crossing over at 500Hz. The 150-4 woofers are early solder-and-decal signature series units, the same type used in original Hartsfield and early Paragon speakers. Cabinets bear the stamped markings 822/823. Each side measures roughly 915mm W x 1630mm H x 760/890mm D and weighs about 115kg; total packed weight is stated as approximately 2000kg (volumetric). The seller states the system has been function-tested and includes demonstration videos (jazz and vocal source material) showing it working. Cone paper and edges on both woofers are described as free of sagging or hardening, and the driver throat shows no damage. Enclosure interiors are also said to be in very good condition for their age.

Seller describes light wear consistent with age, including some paint flaking and scratches on the cabinet and driver exteriors, but calls the overall condition good with excellent speaker edges and cones. Function has reportedly been verified with demonstration video of the system playing.
